About Me
I’m Amanda Hensby, a garden designer and gardener based in Overstrand in North Norfolk. I work for clients usually in Norfolk though sometimes further afield.
My earliest lessons in gardening were taught to me by my grandfather, Alec Bristow. He was a prolific gardening writer who published several books including ‘The Easy Garden’ and ‘A Practical Guide to Successful Gardening.’
My gardening experience, designing, cultivating and improving, has been nurtured for more than 30 years since I created my first garden when I was 23 years old. Since then, my passion for garden design, creation and tending to plants sat alongside my career in the voluntary sector and bringing up a family. Luckily, a few years ago, I was able to leave my job and move to North Norfolk and before long decided to start my own business to follow my interest and expertise in garden design.
Since starting my business I have worked with a number of clients creating more than 10 different gardens from simple planting schemes to gardens for newly built houses where all that was there to begin with was bare earth.
As an artist, I take pride in drawing my plans and designs by hand. My knowledge of plants has developed over 30 years and my ethos is that gardens will thrive with the right plants in the right places. It gives me great satisfaction to know that my personal approach has meant that I continue to have a relationship with many of my clients. This includes designing other garden spaces for them and my regular ‘garden care’ visits and bespoke toolkits which gives them the knowledge and confidence to look after their gardens.
I love gardens and gardening and relish imparting the knowledge and experience I have built up over my lifetime
to see the gardens I have created for my clients take shape and become wonderful outdoor havens.
