Front Gravel Garden

My client had lived in her home for more than 20 years and had a large front garden that no matter what she planted, nothing seemed to thrive. The area was in full sun for most of the day with very free draining soil. The grass was parched and the whole area needed a new lease of life. My client also wanted something that wouldn’t need much maintenance but would look good all year round.

  • A gravel garden seemed the most obvious solution given the difficult location.
  • The planting was based on a spiral with a path leading you into the centre, surrounded on either side by prairie style planting – lots of grasses, perennials and low ground cover plants to gradually meld together.
  • Within a year the garden had taken shape and had been totally transformed with very little maintenance needed through the year
